Welcome to the charming "City by the Sea." One of America's oldest cities, Newport is rich in colonial architecture and history. Appreciate the spirit of this city with us, on the water, as we guide you through its spectacular waterfront on the way to Rose Island Lighthouse. This paddle starts at Kings Beach Park and winds around downtown Newport going wherever Mother Nature guides us. Paddle up to the Newport Lighthouse that overlooks the Newport Bridge, an active lighthouse that guided mariners as far back as the 1800's.
HINGHAM HARBOR, MASSACHUSETTS

From we travel to the launch at Hingham Harbor, cover some basic instruction and get outfitted to paddle. This easy sheltered tour takes us around a few of the inner islands and visits the northern tip of Worlds Ends Reservation.

DOWNTOWN PROVIDENCE, RHODE ISLAND
For the last 10 years the city of Providence and its waterfront has gotten a facelift and the City is making a revival. This paddle takes you into downtown Providence is a great way to view all the improvements that are responsible for the recent growth of the area. We launch from Bold Point Park in East Providence and paddle along the newly renovated India Point Park. In order to get into the relocated Providence River we paddle under the new 195 suspension bridge and through the hurricane barriers.
BASSETTS ISLAND CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS
On this three hour paddle we’ll be in calm and protected waters exploring one of the largest harbors on the east side of Buzzards Bay. We start out by passing large waterfront summer homes and marinas sheltering million dollar yachts. Bassett’s Island shelters Pocasset Harbor and the homes on the shoreline from southeast winds and storms, while the more exposed south leg of the island is public land with a great beach for a shore break and quick summer swim.

GULL COVE, RHODE ISLAND
Narragansett Bay is one of the largest and most ecologically significant estuaries on the East Coast. Coves, bays and salt estuaries buffer and filter the water entering the bay and establish a home for rich coastal resources. Gull Cove is a protected area that's teaming with wildlife. As we glide over waving beds of eelgrass, listen as your naturalist guides explain the areas ecology and significance within the delicate ecosystem of the Bay. In the afternoon we stop and look for ospreys and pickleweed, or perhaps smell some sea lavender.
CHARLES RIVER NEWTON, MASSACHUSETTS
Come paddle the middle Charles River between Needham and Newton, MA and rediscover nature in this urban setting. Our plan is to paddle up river on this gentle flowing scenic and historic river through Cutler Park toward Millennium Park and view the flora and fauna along the river’s edge. The 800 acres known as Cutler Park comprise the largest remaining fresh water marsh on the middle Charles River. During this paddle we regularly see deer foraging, blue herrings fishing, and turtles basking in the sun.

SEAL WATCHING, RHODE ISLAND
Join the EMS Kayak School staff as we go in search of one of the most endearing winter residents of Narragansett Bay, the harbor seal. Harbor seals migrate from the Gulf of Maine and Atlantic Canada into Narragansett Bay’s warmer waters in the winter months. Once quite rare in the area, harbor seal populations have rebounded since the passage of the Marine Mammal Protection Act in 1972. Here in the Bay, they are protected from many of their natural predators like orcas and sharks.
BLUFF POINT STATE PARK, CONNECTICUT
Come explore one of the best stretches of coastline that Connecticut has to offer. Bluff Point State Park is the last remaining significant piece of undeveloped land along the Connecticut coastline. Jutting out into waters of Long Island Sound this wooded peninsula, measuring one and one-half miles long by one mile wide, encompasses over 800 acres. This is a great place to paddle that offers sheltered coves, open water, high wooded vistas, diverse wildlife and a rich and flourishing ecology.

100 ACRE COVE, RHODE ISLAND
Tour one of Barrington's quintessential salt water marshes and discover all the wildlife that calls it home! Visit Osprey nests and Terrapin turtle nesting sites in this wide open ecosystem that serves as a filtration system to Narragansett Bay. Great Blue Herrings and Snowy Egrets dot the banks and landscape as we paddle the perimeter of the tidal marsh. We will paddle north from the small boat ramp along route 114 and explore the marsh and its tributaries.
HERRING RIVER CAPE COD, MASSACHUSETTS
Our 3 hour journey on the Herring River will take us from a tidal river through one of the Cape’s largest salt marshes to a fresh water herring run shaded by oaks and red maples. We’ll paddle away from a purely salt water world up a quiet winding channel, looking on as gently waving salt marsh grasses are replaced by fresh water loving tall reeds and cat tails.  We’ll explore the vibrant colors of an abandoned cranberry bog and its many marsh residents including red wing black birds, belted kingfishers, osprey, great blue herons, multitudes of ducks and a family of mute swans.
