STAND UP PADDLE SURFING
Description
So, you've learned to SUP on flat-water and you want to take it to the next level? Well you're in luck, because Eastern Mountain Sports provides a surf class that speaks to the very origins of SUP! Historically big boards were used to stand on to improve visibility and scope out the next killer wave. Long single bladed paddles helped propel and provide direction to these oversized long boards. Stand Up Paddling combined these two disciplines to offer a great new way to tour and surf the coastline. SUP Surfing is a blast and can be experienced and mastered in a very short time. Once you have proper flat-water experience, you can then transfer those skills to a dynamic surf environment. Our experienced instructors will teach you about the surf as much as how to surf as we progress throughout the class. You'll work on balancing in the surf, paddling in waves, improving your power stroke and punching out through the surf. Once you get comfortable in the surf environment we then work on catching the wave's power, steering and control. You'll soon be cutting left or right as we slide down the wall of a tasty wave.
Eastern Mountain Sports has experienced professionals that can introduce, teach and allow you to experience the thrill of SUP Surfing. Surf classes are booked by private arrangement only.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can i bring my own gear
Yes, if it is appropriate. SUP boards for instruction or for tours need to have a minimum of safety features as well as be an appropriate style and size kayak for the class/tour. Call and check with the school or instructor.

Please mark this date on your calendar after making your reservation!
What time should I plan to arrive for class?
You should get to class at least 15 minutes early. Classes start and end on time.
How many students in each class?
SUP Clinic runs with a 1:6 instructor to student ratio.
What certifications do your instructors have?
All instructors hold current and up to date American Canoe Association (ACA) Certifications. Their level of certification always meets or exceed the level of class they are teaching. All instructors are also CPR and First Aid trained.
How is Eastern Mountain Sports different from other outfitters?
While there are other good outfitters, they are in the minority. We spend a great deal of time on staff training and all our instructors are nationally certified. All of our guides and instructors were experienced paddlers before they became instructors, and that is a claim few other outfitters can back up. We perform risk assessments for every site we work at, with emergency procedure plans prepared in advance, and regularly train in conjunction with rescue agencies like the US Coast Guard and local harbormasters. We have instructors who regularly teach at nationally regarded paddles sports events across the US.
