While certification is an eventual goal of most candidates, it should be emphasized that becoming certified as an ACA instructor is a learning process. Instructor candidates come to the course(s) with a wide range of prior formal paddling instruction and teaching experience. We hope the course(s) will be educational and fun for students at either end of the spectrum, but candidates are encouraged to look at the certification process as a journey, which takes longer for some to complete. Your certification is just as valid if it takes you 9 weeks, 9 months or 2 years to complete the requirements!
Please be aware that it is unrealistic to expect to be certified as an ACA instructor without prior formal instruction and significant teaching experience or the ability to paddle and teach as if you have both! Mere participation carries no guarantee of certification! Please contact me if you have any questions about this!
First Aid & CPR Requirements.
Starting 1/1/2010 all newly certified ACA Instructors, Instructor Trainers, and Instructor Trainer Educators must have and maintain First Aid and age appropriate CPR.
We have provided an overview document detailing the process. First Aid & CPR Requirement Overview Document
This course will be conducted whether the sun is out, or the snow is coming down; please plan to get wet regardless. Please be prepared to paddle and teach in a wide range of weather conditions with any pertinent books or reference materials and teaching supplies you feel you may need for a presentation. Also, please bring any medications that you are currently taking or feel you may need.
